ABSTRACT_ Taunggyi City is the capital of Shan State situated between East Longitude 96.95 degree to 97.07 degree and North Latitude 20.74 degree to 20.82 degree. It is located in a seismically active region as the Kyaukkyan fault is located about 10km in the west of Taunggyi city, Nampon fault is located about 38 km in the east and Sagaing fault is located about 100 km in the west of Taunggyi City. In the seismic record, Maymyo earthquake (1912-M 8.0)was generated by Kyaukkyan fault and it occured away from the populated areas, therefore it caused only moderate damage and destruction. Based on the above mentioned factors, the future earthquake can be expected to occur in the study area and near its surrounding area. For this research, PSHA method is used to develop seismic hazard maps for Taunggyi city. In this method, four -steps of (1) Characterization of seismic source (2) Estimation of Seismic source parameters (3) Characterization of Attenuation Relationship (4) Calculation of Seismic Hazards are conducted. In the site characterization, microtremor measurement was carried out on 25 December 2014 to 3 January 2015 and measured (65- locations) to determine the average shear wave velocity of upper 30m, v^30s .
After site investigation, the site conditions of certain places in Taunggyi city are evaluated and then the seismic hazard assessment is carried out for 2% and 10% probability of exceedance in 50 years and the microzonation maps such as the soil map, Vs30 contour map, and the seismic hazard maps developed for this city. The value of Vs30 is range from 360-1620m/s. The maximum range of Vs30 is 900-1440 m/s belong to Taunggyi city comprising nearly the whole city and the minimum range of Vs30 is 360-540 m/s to the western part of the city. ( Ayetharyar) .
The value of Vs30 is range from 360-1620m/s. The maximum range of Vs30 is 900-1440 m/s belong to Taunggyi city comprising nearly the whole city and the minimum range of Vs30 is 360-540 m/s to the western part of the city (Ayetharyar).
Probablistic seismic hazard map of Taunggyi city for 25 probability of exceeded in 50 years by means of peak ground acceleration (PGA) and the g-value range from 0.3-0.45g for Taunggyi city. The western part of the study area in the range from 0.6-0.7g. Probabilistic seismi hazard map of Taunggyi city for 10% probability of exceedance in 50 years by means of peak ground acceleration (PGA) and the g-value range is 0.21g for Taunggyi city. The western part of the study area in the range from 0.28-0.35g.
Probabilistic seismic hazard map of Taunggyi city for 10% probability of exceedance in 50 years by means of spectral acceleration (SA) at the period of 0.2s and the g-value range is 0.45g for Taunggyi city. The western part of the study area in the range from 0.6-0.75g. Probabilistic seismic hazard map of Taunggyi city for 10% probability of exceedance in 50 years by means of spectral acceleration (SA) at the period of 1s and the g-value range from 0.15g for Taunggyi city. The western part of the study area in the range from 0.3-0.45g. Probablistic seismic hazard map of Taunggyi city for 2% probability of exceedance in 50 years by means of spectral acceleration (SA) at the period of 0.2s and the g-value range is 0.9g for Taunggyi city. The western part of the study area in the range from 1.2-1.5g. Probabilistic seismic hazard map of Taunggyi city for 2% probability of exceedance in 50 years by means of spectral acceleration (SA) at the period of 1s and the g-value range is 0.5g for the Taunggyi city. The western part of the study area in the range from 1-1.5g.

|
