Dissertation note ABSTRACT_ Myanmar is one of the earthquake prone regins as it is located in the eastern part of Alpide Earthquake Belt and the most prominent active fault in Myanmar is Sagaing Fault. Most of the major cities in Myanmar are located along or near the major active faults and among them Taunggyi City is also included. The study area, Taunggyi City is situated in a seismically active region, it is located in Shan State (South) within the latitude 20.74 N to 20.82 N and longitude 96.95 E to 97.07 E. The population of the city is about 200,000. With regards to the previous earthquake, the well-known Maymyo Earthquake of 23 May,1912 with Magnitude (Mw 8) happened in this area and it was originated from Kyaukkyan Fault, which is passing through at about 10 km in the west of the city. Moreover, Nampon Fault is located about 38km in the east. Therefore, it can be regard is Taunggyi City as seismically active area. However, there is no researched work for seismic hazard assessment. The seismic hazard assessment is required to carry out for Taunggyi City and therefore carried out by using the deterministic way. Deterministic seismic hazard analysis is carried out for Fractile dimension of 0.5 and 0.84. As the first portion of the seismic hazard assessment, the seismic sources are identified and the controlling seismic source is determined together with necessary source parameters. Finally, the seismic hazard assessment is carried out for the estimation of ground motion such as peak ground acceleration (PGA) and spectral acceleration(SA) at the period of 0.2s and 1.0s .
In developing the seismic hazard maps, one of the main parameters is the site condition. In here the average shear wave velocity of the upper 30m, Vs30 is the important parameter to present site conditon. To determine the Vs30 for the sites represented Taunggyi City, field investigation of micrometremor survey is carried out in this study. Microtremor measurements are performed at the selected sites to estimate the average shear wave velocity of upper 30m (Vs30) and the fundamental frequency of each sites.
The DSHA map of peak ground acceleration(PGA) for fractile 0.5 is obtained as the range of 0.3g to 0.75g and PGA value of 0.66g to 1.1g for fractile 0.84. Spectral acceleration at 0.2s for the Taunggyi City range from 0.52g to 1.6g for fractile 0.5 range from 0.18g to 0.9g and for fractile 0.84, it ranges is 0.34g to 1.7g.
