Dissertation note ABSTRACT _ Myogyi Multipurpose Dam project is built across the on Zaw Gyi River near Myogyi village in Ywa-Ngan township, Southern Shan State. It is situated about 0.5 miles away from Kyautse-Ywa-Ngan motor car road. It is constructed the aim of greening plan for Wundwin-Meikhila plain and the aim of power generation of 30 Mega-Watt from the project. Myogyi Dam is a zone type filled dan with impervious center core and it is both upstream and downstream portion made up of pervious river bed materials as shell. Engineering geological study, data analysis are used for investigations of Myogyi Multipurpose Dam projects. The major rock unit in the study area is phyllite, metagreywacky and slate. Myogyi Power Tunnel is located right side of the main dam. The tunnel is 6m diameter and 390.57m long. Myogyi Power Tunnel was constructed horseshoe shape from RD 0-314.57m and RD314.57-390.57 was constructed circular shape with steel penstock lining. The engineering geology study is carried out by the field investigation and laboratory analysis of the study area.Geophysical investigations have been carried out ot detect the sub-surface geological structures such as bed rock depth, fault, weak zone and weathered zone. Three empirical rock mass classification system such as RMR (Rock Mass Rating), Q-system and GSI (Geological Strength Index) systems are used to obtain the qualification of the rock mass at Myogyi Power Tunnel area. Based on the RMR values, the rock mass deformation modulus (Em), m and s values are calculated to obtain the preliminary design parameters for Myogyi Power Tunnel area. The values of shear strength and modulus of elasticity for Myogyi Power Tunnel were determined based on RMR and GSI system. Based on GSI, the modulus of elasticity of intact rock (Er) and the rock mass deformation modulus (Ed) are obtained for the dam foundation area. The tunnel is constructed by drilling and blasting method using Jumbo drills. In the Myogyi Power Tunnel supporting system, steek ribs, wire mesh, shotcrete, rob bolt, concrete lining and steel lining are installed along into the tunnel. Generally the relationship of geotechnical parameters and support systems are obtains from the rock mass quality identifications.
