502 ## - DISSERTATION NOTE
Dissertation note This is an attempt to prepare a thesis on the mineral resources and men, how they are interrelated for the development a human society by taking a case study of the Konbaung Period, 1752-1885. When studied, it is seen that the lack of technical knowhow, skill labourer and market could deny a country from socio-economic development even though it is rich in mineral and human resources. In Konbaung Period mineral resources were exploited only in the reigns of King Badon and King Mindon. The royal government and society saw developments to some extent. Therefore, workers or proletarian class seemed to be emerging in that period. They were better off when compared to other grass root level people. The study, then, tries to investigate the whole of social conditions. It is also seen that they were very much vulnerable to misgovernment. To develop a society and state it was necessary to introduce a kind of suitable modern education. Being lack of modern education and economic development, Myanmar was defeated in three wars with the British. Based on historical lessons, conclusion is drawn that only the modern education could enhance socio-economic development. In brief, all available sources were revealed and broadly discussed in terms of socio-economic
basis, how they were exploited and sent to foreign markets through foreign agents, especially to China and India by the Myanmar Kings.
