502 ## - DISSERTATION NOTE
Dissertation note This dissertation deals with the religious organizations in Mandalay during the colonial period. The study on the religion in colonial period Mandalay is based on four conditions which presumably were most important. They are: the advent of Buddhism in Myanmar and the tasks carried out by the successive Myanmar Kings for the Religion; the spread and development of Buddhist scripture, which is the lifeblood of Buddhism; the Sayadaws who strove for the long endurance of Pariyatti Sā-sa-na; and the institutions which supported and promoted Buddhism in the colonial period. The colonial period was a period of change for Buddhism, and monks in Mandalay encountered much difficulties and changes. How Buddhism in Mandalay survived in the colonial period is discussed in this dissertation. This is a dissertation written after conducting research by studying reliable primary evidence to find out the conditions of Buddhism and Buddhist organizations in Mandalay while it was ruled by the British.
