This thesis is an attempt to study the administration of Shan State from the Panglong Conference (12th February 1947) to the cessation of the powers of the Saophas (24th April 1959). It traces the course of events that changed the pattern of administration from the Saophas to the Shan State Government with a special reference to insurgency. It also examines the internal forces which were at work for the change of administration. It touches briefly on the K.M.T and the Chinese Communists incursions which in turn effexted the Shan State Administration. It also tries to explain how the Military Administration in Shan State became the pioneer of centralized administration which eventually paved the way for the cessation of the administrative power of the Saophas.
