Dissertation note: Dabayin emerged as one of the towns founded since Bagan Period. According to local saying and concrete evidence, Dabayin had been founded as one of the twenty-two Lay-ya-byu-myos - the towns which had to submit four hundred servicemen to the crown in late twelveth century A.D. Since that time on, Dabayin stood as an important garrison towns till Konbaung Period. This dissertation discusses the evolution of Dabayin Town throughout history. It also examines the territorial changes of the town, the politics, administration and agrarian economy of the region. The role of the sangha institution in the rural community of Dabayin was also investigated in this dissertation. In other words, this dissertation examines the role of Dabayin in the history of late Konbaung Dynasty. In this dissertation, the primary source materials such as land rolls, revenue inquests, royal orders which were mentioned in palm leaf manuscripts and parabaiks - black folded books and other reliable source materials are used. The researcher of this dissertation carried out a wide range of field trips to obtain primary sources to give new information. Ph.D University of Mandalay 2012
