Dissertation note: This dissertation examines the development of Myanmar music of Mandalay from 1948 to 1988. In the research works, the nature of Myanmar music and its development, Mandalay musicians and their works, celebrated performers of Mandalay and their socio-economic life, music bands and stage performances of Mandalay called A -nyeint and development of A-nyeint songs are discussed in detail. The facts of why Mandalay was recognized as the heart of Myanmar culture, how the musicians of Mandalay handed down the cultural legacy from generation to generation and why the development process of Myanmar music shifted to Yangon and Lower Myanmar were also discussed. In other words, the discussion made on the role of Mandalay in the development of music and culture of Myanmar. PhD University of Mandalay 2013.
