Dissertation note: ABSTRACT This dissertation is to study history of Lawk Sawk and Lai Hka states from 1752 to 1948 A.D. highlighting the political, economic and social development as well as the awesome military power of the two Saw-bwas all along the dynasties of Myanmar kings. During the Konbaung Dynasty, the Myo-su-sas of Lawk Sawk and Lai Hka were appointed to full Saw-bwa with the privileges, titles and special insignias by the Myanmar sovereigns. When the Myanmar Kingdom fell under the British Imperialist, Lawk Sawk Saw-bwa Sao Waing fought valiantly against them. In contrast Lai Hka Saw-bwa affiliated himself to the British Imperialist forces in the same way as he had submitted to the Myanmar sovereigns. Thus the British rulers continued to accede the Saw-bwa status as before. In addition he was conferred the title of K.S.M., and C.I.E. During Myanmar's struggle for independence, Lai Hka Saw-bwa Sao Num was one of the signatories of Pang Long Agreement in February 1947. Such significant characteristics of Lawk Sawk and Lai Hka states and continuous progress through the stages of history has been thoroughly analyzed and appreciated.
