by Than Htut Lwin,Maung.

Material type: Text Text; Format: print ; Literary form: Not fiction Publisher: Yangon: Geology Department, 2002Dissertation note: This research was directed towards mineralogical investigation of copper mineralization and associated minerals in Khwayaik,Myozo and Bawsaing areas.Copper sulphide deposit occurs at the Khwayaik Taung. The Mineralization occurs in Wunbye Formation of Khwayaik and Bawsaing areas. At Myozo area, copper carbonate is associated with baryte in Nan-on Fornmation. At Khwayaik area, ore minerals include copper minerals (tetrahedrite - tennantite, chalcocite, chalcopyrite) and pyrite. At Bawsaing area, ore minerals include galena, tetrahedrite , chalcopyrite, covellite, pyrite and chalcocite .Quartz and sericite are gangue minerals. The copper and lead minerals were found as massive veins, stringers veinlets and also as disseminations.By the detailed study in the adits the mineralization is found closely related to fracture zone .The formation of mineralization is more favorable in porous dolomitic limestone host rock and the fracture opening support to the formation of ore minerals. In the Bawsaing and Khwayaik ores are found as fracture filling, vug filling and pore space filling . The mineralization is characterized by host rock alteration, in the form of silicification, serializations, Dolomitisation, limonisation, kaolinisation, bleaching and development of gossans . Recrystallization, replacement and cataclastic textures are characteristically very common in large and microscopic sales. All the available data from current research show that ore mineralization is the result of hydrothermal activity. by Htet Naing Win.

Material type: Text Text; Format: print Yangon; University of Yangon, 2018Dissertation note: ABSTRACT_ The upper Keng Tawng project is situated on Nam Teng Chaung, about 14 miles away from southeast of Keng Tawng in Southern Shan State. Likewise, it is located at Latitude 20 44' 36" N and 98 11' 11" E and 1:63360-scale topographic map index of 93.L/2 N-935122.It is a central core, zoned embankment dam 65m high, 422m long, with dam crest at elevation 747m. There are four different types of geological formation and group. In western part of the project area, calcitic nature of Upper Plateau Limestone is found nearby north-south trending intra-formational fault. About two-third of the mapped area is consisted of red coloured sandstone, siltstone, marl and conglomerate of Kalaw Formation in age of cretaceous. In centre of the formation, permo-carboniferous aged Plateau Limestone, triassic aged Natteik Limestone and jurassic aged Loi-An Group are exposed as inliers. The two formations, Natteik Limestone and Plateau Limestone, are cross cut by northeast trending faults interperted with aerial photo analysis of the area. The project area lies within the Kalaw Formation. Five main types of rock mass classes are identified according to CRIEPI. They are CH, CI, CM, CH and D class. The two main types of grouting which are performed at Upper Keng Tawng Dam are curtain grouting and consolidation grouting for a curtain grouting, primary hole, secondary hole and tertiary hole are drilled up to 50m. The foundation is horizontally bedded sandstone and calcareous tufa mainly, exhibiting near vertical and horizontal cracking with openings varying widely from almost tight to several inches. Most application started with 8 : 1. for a curtain grouting, primary hole, secondary hole and tertiary hole are drilled up to 60m. A single row grout curtain was constructed by stage grouting, using split spacing method, with widely spaced primary holes then successively halving the distance between holes untill eventually the desired standard of permeability was achieved in accordance with the principles. The grout holes are spaced 3m each. The curtain line had average 5.6 Lugeon after primary holes. Average Lugeon values dropped to 4.6 after secondary holes. after tertiary holes average Lugeon values are 2.9 and after quaternary holes average lugeon values are 1.4. Addational holes are drilling and grouting to obtain target lugeon value. Most of the grout hole which are found at Upper Keng Tawng dam foundation are low to moderate take. Somewhere, actual grout take are large up to Extremely high. In conclusion, the Lugeon values at the Upper Keng Tawng dam site area are less than 2 Lugeon ag=fter the grouting. M.Sc. Deterministic seismic hazard assessment for Taunggyi city, Shan State/ Yu Mon Kyaw Aung.

by Yu Mon Kyaw Aung.

Material type: Text Text; Format: print ; Literary form: Not fiction Yangon ; University of Yangon, 2015Dissertation note: ABSTRACT_ Myanmar is one of the earthquake prone regins as it is located in the eastern part of Alpide Earthquake Belt and the most prominent active fault in Myanmar is Sagaing Fault. Most of the major cities in Myanmar are located along or near the major active faults and among them Taunggyi City is also included. The study area, Taunggyi City is situated in a seismically active region, it is located in Shan State (South) within the latitude 20.74 N to 20.82 N and longitude 96.95 E to 97.07 E. The population of the city is about 200,000. With regards to the previous earthquake, the well-known Maymyo Earthquake of 23 May,1912 with Magnitude (Mw 8) happened in this area and it was originated from Kyaukkyan Fault, which is passing through at about 10 km in the west of the city. Moreover, Nampon Fault is located about 38km in the east. Therefore, it can be regard is Taunggyi City as seismically active area. However, there is no researched work for seismic hazard assessment. The seismic hazard assessment is required to carry out for Taunggyi City and therefore carried out by using the deterministic way. Deterministic seismic hazard analysis is carried out for Fractile dimension of 0.5 and 0.84. As the first portion of the seismic hazard assessment, the seismic sources are identified and the controlling seismic source is determined together with necessary source parameters. Finally, the seismic hazard assessment is carried out for the estimation of ground motion such as peak ground acceleration (PGA) and spectral acceleration(SA) at the period of 0.2s and 1.0s . In developing the seismic hazard maps, one of the main parameters is the site condition. In here the average shear wave velocity of the upper 30m, Vs30 is the important parameter to present site conditon. To determine the Vs30 for the sites represented Taunggyi City, field investigation of micrometremor survey is carried out in this study. Microtremor measurements are performed at the selected sites to estimate the average shear wave velocity of upper 30m (Vs30) and the fundamental frequency of each sites. The DSHA map of peak ground acceleration(PGA) for fractile 0.5 is obtained as the range of 0.3g to 0.75g and PGA value of 0.66g to 1.1g for fractile 0.84. Spectral acceleration at 0.2s for the Taunggyi City range from 0.52g to 1.6g for fractile 0.5 range from 0.18g to 0.9g and for fractile 0.84, it ranges is 0.34g to 1.7g. M.Sc. by Kyaw Thu Oo.

Material type: Text Text; Format: print ; Literary form: Not fiction Yangon; University of Yangon, 2018Dissertation note: ABSTRACT _ Kyauktap area, the study area is about 18 kilometers north of Heho. Kalaw Township, Taunggyi Distrinct. It covers approximately 25 square kilometres. Regionally, the Precambrian rocks of Chaungmagyi Group are surrounded by Lower Paleozoic rocks. The study area is located in the southern part of Bawsaing Range that lies in the southwestern part of the Shan Plateau. Sedimentary rocks of the Wunbye Formation, Nan-on Formation of Pindaya Group (Ordovician age) and Linwe Formation of Mibayataung Group (Silurian age) cropped out in the study area. According to petrographic classification, Wunbye Formation can be divided into six microfacies: Oolitic Dolomatized Grainstone, Dolomitic Limestone, Crystalline Limestone, and Ferruginous Lime Mudstsone of Linwe Formation. The lead mineralization is confined to the carbonate rocks of Wunbye Formation of Middle Ordovician age. Absence of igneous rocks is conspicuous. Two types of wallrock alteration are dolomitization as the main alteration, and silicification as subordinate, which predate the ore mineralization. The ore mineralogy is relatively simple. The major ore minerals are galena and barite, and its associated minerals are sphalerite, pyrite, chalcopyrite, covellite and anglesite. The gangue minerals are calcite, dolomite and quartz. Both open-space fillings (veinlets, disseminations, fracture fillings and solution collapse breccias) and replacement (irregular patches to massive aggregrates) styles are the nature of ore mineralization. Lead mineralizations are localized by both structural and lithostratigraphical controls. There are three prospects of lead mineralization in the study area. Pb values range from 3.746%to 58.34%. The content of Zn ranges from 0.0% to 16.45% Cu ranges from 0.0% to 0.024% in the study area. Based on the geological, geochemical and mineralogical characteristics, the lead mineralizations in the study area carbonate-hosted, stratabound deposits; and epigenetic in origin and may be regarded as one of the sub-types of the Mississippi Valley-Type (MVT) deposits. It is a double plunging anticline, plunging south as well as north. The study area is moderately elevated, hilly terrian to flat plain region. The study area is trending north-south in direction and mainly upper Paleozonic rocks are exposed. A wide range of lithology and age ranging from Upper Cambrian to Ordovician, with local presence of clastic sediments. The mineralization is characterized by host rock alteration. There are various types of alterations near the copper ore mine of Lathar-Taung area. They are; (1) Dolomitisation, (2) Silicification, (3) Sericitisation, (4) Kaolinisation and (5) Limonitisation. Mineralization hostedin carbonate sedimentary rocks at the study area. Carbonate hosted ore consist largely of galena associated with copper, pyrite, chalcopyrite and limonite were formed the major ore minerals. Galena mineralization is strongly associated with silt-patches limestone and ooidsparite limestone by thin-section.Galena is recongnized by the presence of traingular pits, along the cleavage direction and which found secondary origin in the microscope. Analysis rock samples by AAS methods, silver content in galena is relatively high and good positive correlation (+0.382) which is epithermal deposit character. At the study area, ores are found as recrystallization, replacement and fracture filling textures. So this deposit type is stratabound deposit, fracture filling deposit (epigenetic system). Copper sulphides are found as vein type within silicified zone. by Chit Ye Naung Htet.

Material type: Text Text; Format: print ; Literary form: Not fiction Yangon; University of Yangon, 2018Dissertation note: ABSTRACT_ The study area is located near Kanzan village, about 89km south-west of Loikaw City, Kayah State. The Mergui Group is widely distributed around the study area. In this unit, the prominent rock is sandstone and phyllite. Muscovite Granite intrudes the metasediments of the Mergui Group. The major Shan Scarp Fault, N-S trending longitudinal fault, runs in the western part of the study area, In the study area, metasedimentary rocks of Mergui Group and granite are well exposed. The metasedimentary rocks ard sandstone, siltstone and phyllite. Sandstone is fine-to medium-grained and granular texture. It is composed of quartz, orthoclase and opaque minerals. Silstone is fine-grained and composed of quartz, feldspar, mica and opaque minerals.Pyhllite is fine-grained and foliated. Granite is medium-to coarse-grained hypidiomorphic granular texture. It is mainly composed of quartz, orthoclase, plagioclase and muscovite. The common types of alteration associated with Sn mineralization in Kanzan area are greisenization, silicification, sericitization and kaolinization. The mineralization style of the Kanzan deposit is designated as vein type deposit which is hosted by the muscovite granite and metasedimentary rocks. The nature of distribution of the ore minerals in Kanzan Sn mineralization is represented by the quartz veins which contains cassiterite, pyrite ,chalcopyrite, arsenopyrite and sphalerite. Cassiterite, arsenopyrite and pyrite are early formed minerals in the vein system and late stage of the vein in represented by the chalcopyrite and sphalerite. Tin abundances range from 250ppm to 18.99% and tungsten content is from 620 ppm to 1.60% Tin is positively correlated with tungsten and copper. Upper Keng Tawng hydropower project has been carried out for hydropower generation. At the project area, the exposed Kalaw Formation (Cretaceous age) is composed of reddish colour sandstone, silstone and conglomerate. Along the tunnel aligmment, core drilling investigation and permeability test are carried out for geotechnical investigation. The percentage of RQD is generally ranging from 50% to 90% according to the drill holes results. Permeability in bed rock is ranging from 1 Lu to 16.9 Lu. Geomechanics classification and detailed slope stability analyses were performed for four locations in the project area. Spacings of discontinuities were measured in the field and the measured results were ranging from 0.4m to 0.6m while the persistence was ranging from 2.2m to 4.4m. Most of the discontinuity openings were between 3.12mm and 6.7mm and they were filed with some clay and silt. Rebound hammer test on some selected rock outcrops in the study area were ranging from 20 MPa to 50 MPa. The RMR value is ranging from poor rock to good rock condition and SMR value is almost rock condition but SMR value of tunnel inlet shows the bad rock condition. Detailed slope stability analyses had been carried out at four locations in the study area by stereographic projection in Win 64 Software and it revealed the factor of safety of 0.43 to 7.6. The areas with safety factor less than 2 are generally unstable and that of greater than 2 are stable. The unstable areas require some effected remedial measures and some suitable supporting and stabilizing methods are needed in the study area. M.Sc. It also lies at the east of the Shan Scarp. Stratigraphically, rock units mainly exposed of Plateau Limestone (Carboniferous), Nyaungbaw Formation (Siluarian), Namhsim Sandstone (Siurian), Pangyun Formation (Cambrain) and Chaungmagyi Group (Precambrian). The Chaungmagyi Group (Precambrian) consists of greywacke, phyllite and slate. Plateau Limestone exposed in the southern and eastern parts of the study area. Nyaungbaw Formation is to be found only at the eastern flank of the metasedimentary unit. It consists mostly of thin to fhick bedded phacoidal limestone. And also, Namshim sandstone consists of fine to medium grained, bluewish brown color on the fresh surface and yellowish to brown color underlying by plateau limestone. In the study area, there is north-south trending fault system which is only one prominent lineament system. In geochemical analysis, Cu, Pb, As, Zn, Au was determined by Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS) method, the precious metal association of gold and silver elements has the lowest values in these veins. The base metal group of copper, lead and arsenic is moderate concentration in the veins. Zinc is also common element of the study area. Mean value and total range for gold is closely associated with silver element. Gold Mineralization occurs in Namshim Sandstone such as sedimentary hosted at North-West of Pangmalawt village. The GPS location of the study area is N 22° 25.602 E 096° 48.564, elevation is 727m near the Maintan Chaung. There is only one new adit in the study area, the direction of adit is 30° and the length of this adit is 6m. There are two types of alternations, especially sericitization and silicification.Sericitization is a prominent alternation in the mineralized zone. It is often associated with a few intensity of silicification. The ore controls can be considered as structural controls, lithologic and stratigraphic controls and source of magmatism is not significant. Material type: Text Text; Format: print ; Literary form: Not fiction Yagon; University of Yangon, 2016Dissertation note: ABSTRACT __The research area, the environs of Bawphyutaung is situated about 17 miles from north of Heho and 2 miles from Bawsaing village, Kalaw Township, Shan State (South). The area is covering about 32 kilometers. The Bawsaing- Heho area is characterized by the rocks of the Molohein Group (Upper Cambrian), Pindaya Group (Ordovician), Mibayataung Group (Silurian) and Plateau Limestone Group (Permocarboniferous). The research area consists mainly two rocks type of Pindaya Group (Ordovician), namely Wunbye Formation and Nan-on Formation. Most of the area is covered by the rocks of the Wunbye Formation. It covers about 95% exposure-wise.Attitude of the rocks are generally trending N-S and dipping to the East. Petrographically,Wunbye Formation can be grouped as (1) Laminated Mudstone, (2) Pelloidal Wackestone, (3) Oolitic Packstone (4) Dolostone. The six elements were analyzed by AAS. They are As, Ag, Cu,Pb, Zn and Fe. There is a good positive correlation all of the pairs. From among the pairs of elements with lead, in rock samples, silver shows a strong positive correlation (+0.873). According to the cluster analysis, Lead is strongly associated with silver and zinc. Lead mineralization in the present study area is restricted to the Ordovician rocks and specially related to the Wunbye formation. Ore minerals are ; Galena, cerrusite, sphalerite, pyrite, chalcopyrite and covellite Gangue minerals are calcite, dolomite and quartz. Disseminated galena occuring in the limestones are also parallel to the bedding. Sphalerite is usually found in association with galena and pyrite. Pyrite and chalcopyrite are occured as small irregular masses. Galena is constantly associated with barite. By the petrographic examination and field observation.alternations are dolomitization, silicification, sericitisation and pyritization. In the study area, lead sulphide mainly occur in Thaungdwin and Phayataung worksites. Lead carbonate are also excavated at the Bawphytaung hill. The veins are trending NNW, NW and EW. Most of the mine site are using square-set stoping and shafting method. The Bawsaing area is famous for its richness in lead mineralization. Nowadays, only lead and barite deposits are extracted commercially. Local villagers are also working in this mine site. Master. University of Yangon, 2016. Lead mineralization of the Shwe Taung prospect, Htaminbaung area, Ywangan township, Shan State (South) / Myo Khaing.

by Myo Khaing.

Material type: Text Text; Format: print ; Literary form: Not fiction Yangon; University of Yangon, 2017Dissertation note: ABSTRACT _ The study area is situated about 11 kilometers southeast of Ywangan. Total area coverage is about 25 square kilometres. The major rock units are Chaungmagyi Group, Pindaya Group, Mibayataung Group and Plateau Limestone Group. Structurally, the faults are trending NNW-SSE and NE-SW. Lead ore mineralization occurs in the Middle Ordovician age of the Wunbye Formation. It is found at two localities. Shwe Taung lead occurrence - 1 is associated with brecciated argillaceous limestone and Shwe Taung lead occurrence - 2 is associated with the dolomitic limestone, both of Wunbye Formation. The chief ore mineral is galena and associated ore minerals are sphalerite, chalcopyrite, anglesite and pyrite. Two types of alterations; the dolomitization and silicification can be recongnized. Ore microscopic study reveals that the alignments of cleavage pits are wavy and extremely curved in galena. It indicates that there have been considerable amount of deformation during and after ore deposition. Open-space filling and replacement texture are observed in the ore microscopic study. The lead mineralization is controlled by lithology, stratigraphy and structure. Shwe Taung Lead Deposit is carbonate-hosted , stratabound and epigenetic in origin as judged by its geological characteristics. According to the report of Shwe Lar Taung Mining Co.Ltd; February, 2013, estimated tonnage of Shwe Taung Lead Occurrences 1 and 2 is 2073 tonnes. Average AAS assay results of metal contents are Pb 2.02%, Zn 0.0236%, Fe 0.4676% and Ag 85ppm or g/t. Based on the geological, mineralogical and geochemical signatures, the lead ore deposits of Shwe Taung, Htaminbaung area is carbonate-hosted, stratabound and epigenetic deposits and most probably belong to a Pb-rich sub-type of the Mississippi Valley-Type (MVT) deposits. Keywords : Shwe Taung, Wunbye Formation, carbonate-hosted, stratabound, epigenetic deposits,MVT. M.Sc. University of Yangon, 2017.
